Server Speed Up!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

After I installed Fedora 10, I’ve been noticing that when loading web pages through the browser it was very slow.  It would act like it was search and then “boom” it would find the page.  Same when trying to make requests to Apache.  So I did some research and it seems that Fedora 10 comes installed with a small bug.

Example:

When your machine makes a request for a file it asks for IPv4 or IPv6 address and then the request would send a replay of IPv6 and your computer can only handle IPv4.  Then it would error out.

I had to create a config file specifically for my network card, real easy.  Now its up and running awesome and should get anymore dropped internet connections or slow speeds.  I attached the link below to read through if anyone else needs help.

The Unofficial Fedora FAQ

This is my first post.

Well I finnaly got my new server setup.  Figured out all the permissions and setup correct users.  Today I created a Bash Job Backup that grabs all the important databases and scripts them out and all the important documents and any scripts that I created.  It then tar’s them up into a single file.  Eventually I add the ability to ftp the backup to an off site directory, but until then, meh.  I’m about to go and see if the new cron job I set up worked.  Anyways I hope people follow this new blog I created and check out the wiki.
